Description
Don Thumel
Silent Night
While Don’s previous two Christmas albums featured well-known holiday melodies arranged in both “pop” (Christmastime) and “jazz” styles (O Christmas Jazz), his third Christmas album takes him in a totally different direction.
The goal for this album was to capture a bit of a bygone age, better known as the Renaissance, by utilizing instrumentation and harmonic structure that, in most cases, speaks of a time where evening light was generated by candles and oil lamps – and life, in general, moved at a much slower pace.
This album again includes ”traditional” Christmas melodies, in addition to a couple less well known. Most were written in the late 19th century, with even one dating back to 1591. And then there’s that newer “pop” tune from 1943 – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas!
Let yours ears wander to a simpler time!
